Hi, my Rio 400 has two tubes, a white light and a pinkish light. I think the pink one is the natural tube for plant growth? Might be wrong...

I'm probably not going to have real plants in my tank in the end due to homing medium-large new world cichlids. If I were to replace the pinkish tube can anyone recommend which tube I should replace it with? My brother just bought a used Juwel tank and his one has a white and blue tube which he said looks really good, but I've not seen it yet.

Whats everyone else using?

If some bright spark could shine some light on which tube to use that would be very enlightening...(sorry couldnt resist! lol)

New world cichlids would look nice under white and blue, you could also use another daylight tube to make the tank look crisp.

Check out my topic I started a couple days ago, quite similar

Light is light. Color spectrum is all about personal choice and what looks good to you, which often takes some trial and error no matter what people tell you. The amount of light and the hours left on can be important with respect to algae. Another thing to think about is that different color temperatures often mimic completely different natural bodies of water. Bright sparkling white/blue (10,000K type spectrum) mimics full sun out over the ocean, whereas yellow/green light (6700K more or less) may begin to look more like the light in natural freshwater bodies under the partial shade of green plants. Of course nature offers just about anything you can think of somewhere in the world, so those are just generalizations. Take a few suggestions, go with your hunches and just give some combination of tubes a try and then see what you think. If you have the money, buy several different temperatures of color and compare for yourself! Let us know what you think if you do that.

I prefer the white light myself. Its just a matter of what you like. I do have 24 blue L.E.D's that I bought off ebay that are on at night. You just have to see what you want.

yeah its all personal preference!

:hi: good luck with ur new tank, make sure u take pics of the progress, its fun looking back and seeing the changes!
