Juwel Filter Media - Whats Needed

Hi everyone,

I have bought a second hand Juwel vision 260 litre tank with the internal filter. Obviously being second hand i need to buy all the filter media but i'm not sure exactly what i need to get and in what order i need to put them in the filter

I think i need the following from top to bottom but can anyone confirm if this is right

1 x poly pad
1 x carbon sponge
1 x nitrate sponge
1 x coarse sponge
2 x fine sponge

your help would be much appreciated

Thats the official way to do it yeah, however, you dont need a carbon sponge (its only used to remove meds) and frankly the nitrAte sponge doesnt nothing either, although it can still be used a normal media.

I would just pack it with the fine sponges and course sponge with some floss on the top, well I say I would, thats what I do on both my juwels

How many of each sponge would you advise if i am just going to go down the fine and coarse sponge only route?

Advice looks pretty good so far.
I would just like to add a little more.

Poly pad at the very top. Coarse sponges in the upper carrage to be gently washed (in old tank water) at water changes, but not all of it every time, alternate. Fine sponge in the lower carrage but this doesn't need to be cleaned nearly as often. Leave for a couple of months then clean in the usual way.

You could substitute a lump of the coarse media for a container of Juwel Cirax which is the same size but offers more surface area.

If its the Jumbo filter, you should have 2 carriers (plastic things) each holds 2 sponges.

Put 2 fine in one, and 2 coarse in the other. Fine go in the bottom.


You can put some bio media (chips/balls) imbetween them if you like - its what I did. (Used a bag made from tights)

get cirax or a bag of ceramic ball thingys for the bacteria to colonise on

thanks for all the advice people its very much appreciated. i shall get myself the neccessary sponges from my LFS tomorrow. Cant wait to get it all up and running now
