on the juwel filter pads they say change this every 4 weeks and change that every week
but ive heard that all the fisters apart from the carbon can be rinced out and used again
is this true oh and the poly filteri just cut out of the large pond sizes much cheaper
3£ for 50g of polly for the reddy cut its about £1.50 for 4g

could some1 tell me if its ok to wash most of them

thx

The blue pads are rinsed out (in aquarium water), I can't remember the schedule for doing so. I've had mine for about 6 years, and they are still ok. I've never used the carbon pads. I also use the poly filter made from large sheets, as you say, It's a lot cheaper. This I usually change every week.

Everyone has a slightly different schedule, but most people will agree that there is absolutely no need to change any of your sponges unless they start to fall apart - which takes years. The only thing I changed weekly, was my white filter floss because that was just too dirty to wash. It's much cheaper to buy a large bag of floss and just stuff some in on top :good:

I gently rinsed all my sponges weekly in some siphoned tank water. Other people will only do one sponge a week on a rotational basis. I found this not necessary in my established tank and it coped perfectly with my routine.

(Ps: just stick to the course & fine blue sponges - forget the carbon and Nitrate ones)

Well, that was until I ripped my Juwel filter out and replaced it with an external - where my maintenance dropped to once every 6 months

why should we forget the nitrate sponges?
i know carbon can leak things back into the water after a while, and dont do much in terms of ongoing aquarium maintance, but i thought nitrate sponges helps remove nitrates and did something useful.
