Hiya,

The Juwel backgrounds look really good but are expensive. Just wondered if anybody has ever made a copy and what did they use?

Or does anybody know of any similiar but cheaper ones?

Are they worth it?

Thanks in advance

A lot of people have made them but most people prefer live plants for the background like vallis and such.

I was hoping to use it instead of just putting the blue/black paint or background on my tank. Then the plants would be in front of it

There a quite a few good tutorials on youtube about making things like this.

Often not an option or something different is desired.

I made a couple of 3-D backgrounds using polystyrene, one I actually put inside the tank sticking to the glass with aquarium sealant, the other I stuck to the outside and that also looked very good.

I did make a background out of paper once, I found a picture on the net and printed around 10-12 copies and stuck them together, that also looked OK but the problem was after a while it got a bit damp so I took it off, and bought a waterproof type one from the lfs but like you say they are expensive.

One of my lfs are selling the juwel back grounds for £45 each for the larger size... I got my 3 for £26 each off a UK web site
