what is the max size of a red tail shark. I have one in my 55 and he is like 4 and one half inches long, will he get any bigger?

from what I've read, they don't get too much bigger, maxing out in the 5" range. You should be good :good:

He will get a bit bigger but not much. However, he will bulk up a bit.

they tend to max out at six, they do however need lots of room, your tank size is really below, but only just, the minimum. 100g is recommended for these guys in a community tank.

IMO the O/P's 55g tank is more than adequate for a single RTBS - some sites state 40g as a minimum.

lol its quite true that tank size recommendation's differ between sites and indeed keepers. but reading the experiences of keepers around the world, it does seem that many of the aggressive traits of the fish, virtually, vanish when tank size gets to 100g, it will depend on stocking though.

Most sites I have read say 40 gallon, bala shark different they do need 100 gallons.

i averaged out the ten or twelve sites i visited and it came to 55g. mind you, one said they got to 12 or so inches

thanks for all of the help guys.

just to clarify i have him in there with 3 red fin tetras, 5 blak skirt tetras, 1 male dwarf gourami, 3 peppered cories and 2 spotted cories, and the 5 buenes aires tetras (if thats how you spell it) and he's not agressive at all.

He used to be when he was littler, but he's not at all anymore, he just hides in his log alot.

but thank you becuase i didn't know if he would outgrow my 55
