RO water is dangerous to use alone. It has virtually no minerals in it so the fish are living in almost pure water. I know that sounds good except all fish require some amount of minerals in the water. The more common livebearers like mollies, platies, guppies and swords require fairly hard water instead of "pure" water. If you use straight RO water, you need to add the minerals back in for the type of fish you have. Products are made to do that but it ends up costing quite a bit when you do regular water changes and must add minerals to every gallon that goes into the tank. I have been down that road and now I only use a mix of RO and tap water when I am trying to breed fish that need very soft water. The tap water in the mix restores some minerals and I can make my mix match the fish's needs. The rest of the time I use straight tap water that has been treated to remove chlorine / chloramine.
