just signed up this morning so Happy New Year to you all.
Recently bought a tank and cabinet with an Eheim pump, the pipework was filthy so i decided to renew, what a game that is.The new pipe seems thicker even though it is marked as the same size do i just keep winding till it goes tight? Is the spray bar meant to spray onto the surface of the water, how far down into the tank should the extractor pipe go?
The reason i bought this tank is because the light failed on my old tank,it is a Ferplast with a Cayman hood the front of which is curved all the electricals are in the hood.I have been told these are no longer available .Sorry if this dragged on a bit.

Happy New Year Davy,
Welcome to TFF we hope you enjoy your time on the boards.
The Eheim flexi-pipe can be pretty stiff to work with but its good stuff.
I take it you have the correct size for your pump (pump model is)
Most folks have the intake pipe/strainer basket as near to the bottom as poss without sucking up any substrate
You can have your spray-bar wherever you like across the top or submerged.
Regards
BigC

welcome to the forum and happy new year

the benefit of having the intake near the substrate is that you may pick up detritus from the substrate. The spray bar I prefer to put pointing towards to surface so that it helps oxygenate the water and in a direction so that it provides some flow through the tank

Happy new year and welcome to the forum.

thanks for the replies, yes the pipe is the correct size. The filter is a 2215.
Any ideas where i can get a cayman hood for my other tank? It seems a waste to throw away a perfectly good tank for the sake of the hood.

can someone explain the procedure for tightening the eheim pipes,am i right in thinking the tightener only goes halfway

Yeah Davey they only need to be finger tight otherwise they are a bugger to get off when they become used.
Cant find any Ferplast (Cayman) accessories that would sell hoods only.
Ever thought about open top aquariums with a luminaire
That very company do make such accessories
