Was just doing my weekly w/c on my my 60l, having trouble as usual getting my Fluval U2 started again. I pulled the bracket out and saw out of the corner something flip up. I thought it was a bit of floating plant but looked down and there was my Honey G lying on the carpet!!!! I quicly wet my hands and picked him up (but with difficulty, I have to move him along the carpet a bit) and put him back in and he seems to be ok (I think). Do you think he is? Poor little thing had a lump of fluff attached to him (which he's now managed to get rid of).

He swimming around ok and doesn't seem too distressed but I can't see how he can't be damaged from the carpet, let alone the fall.

I swear my hear stopped lol!

Yuppp - I had this happen TWICE today. I was changing the substrate in my tank so had all of my fish in a bucket on the floor. A rasbora hopped right out I saw it happen so I quickly scooped him back in and put the condensation shield for my tank over the bucket which pretty much covered the whole opening but lo and behold about 20 minutes later he did it again! I wasn't looking this time and I think I got him back in the tank just as he was all out of "flip-flop". I'm guessing it was the same fish both times but they are all back in the tank and looking fine now though!

It's possible he's damaged his slime coat so an extra water change or two this week might not go amiss, and obviously keep an eye on him. Honestly, I've only ever had one fish survive longer than 24 hours after a floor incident, and the gourami that did wasn't right for months afterwards until he died 6 months later. hopefully you'll have better luck than I.

It'a amazing isn't it? It makes me wonder if this is what happened a few months ago to my missing Sparkling Gourami and I just didn't see it happen. Maybe he's down the side my unit somewhere :-(

I am a danger. Tell your fish to beware if they see me on the street!

Thanks, I'll do that. He looks a bit red around his gills. Possibly. But I might just be looking for things?

Been here over 2 years & it's the first one to hit the floor? I must be a real dork, they jump from nets & such all the time on me!

I had three seperate "fish on the floor" moments while moving my teenage adult Ilyodon xantusi the other day, one jumped out of the bucket while I was still trying to catch the last couple and two jumped from the bucket while netting them after acclimitisation! Thankfully eveyone was and is fine so far, each time I quickly soaked my hands in tank water before gently cupping them.

Lol I must just have been luck!.....mind you, the missing Sparkler might disagree!

I've only ever hd this happen to me once. A glowlight tetra jumped out of the tank during a water change years ago and fell about 2 meters onto the floor behind the tank! The tank was across a corner so had to pull it out to pick him up. He was absolutely fine though!

 Tolak! I put my hand over the top of the net so they can't jump out. :)

aww bless you, its happened a few times with me.. the worst being an over hungry oscar that just couldnt wait for his dinner
