So, lets picture this scenario. Beginner buys a few fish and a tank and sets it up the same day. Beginner then finds out about cycling, freaks out, and doesn't want to loose thier new fish. The store won't take them back and they have no friends to take their fish while the tank cycles. The standard advice is a good filter and water changes, and zeolite is not recommended because it impedes the cycling process. However, what if the beginner were to buy a smaller temporary tank, use a small underwater zeolite filter to get rid of ammonia, and recharge the zeolite in marine water every couple of days or every week or however often it needs to be recharged? Beginner can then cycle the big tank properly using ammonia or hardier fish or whatever method while their finned friends don't die of ammonia poisoning in the meantime. Would this work?
