my son has just come home and noticed the 2 co2 cannisters on one of the tanks ( they have only been there for about 3 months!!- but hes a teenager!)

so i have just sat thru 2 hours of a lecture from hell, yes i have children and i want them to see polar bears and nice fish in the future and not to have to live in the middle of a landfill site
he has brought up:

1)im using co2 for the most stupid reason-and should not have plants in my tanks
2)i am using way too much electric,running 8 tanks, filters,lights,air pumps,heaters
3)keeping fish in a tank in the first place is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4) most ridiculous use of water he has ever known- water changes once per week ( no he never washes his face!!)

basically what hes telling me is im am enjoying one of the most un-eco friendly hobbies there is, and i dont have an argument do i???

first and foremost i hate being in the wrong!!!
secondly i have just taken the light bulb out of his room and hidden his phone/ipod charger and turned off his radiator, turned his ps3 off standby ( god help me) and given him a good old fashioned hot water bottle to fill ( which he will have to wee in to fill!!!-very eco friendly)
the few things he hasnt mentioned is the fact that i pay the bills, i recycle wherever possible, i use eco friendly bulbs, i wont be speaking to him when GRAND THEFT AUTO 4 comes out!,
i dont drive a v12 aston martin-( 0-56mph in 1st gear if you dont mind!) was going to buy a shogun lwb,-which i wont be letting him wash!

anyway hes wrong ISNT HE????
what on earth do they teach them in school these days?? this cant be right,im his mum im ALWAYS right!

dam straight your right, dont just hide his stuff give him a good kickin as well :)

Teach that boy some manners, and not talk back to his mum, GET THE BELT OUT!!!!

Lol joke I think your right

Stick him on a nice eco friendly diet of salad and raw vegetables and see how eco friendly he still wants to be when the rest of the family are tucking into proper food.
Then tell him that until he pays his share of the bills he has no opinion and can keep his cakehole shut unless he wants to find himself sleaping in the nice eco friendly shed with the spiders. Lippy know it all kids, i hate them :<

pmsl..... sam darling when you read this which i know you will you nosey git!!! see i am ALWAYS right, and you will find the shed, to the left at the top of the garden !! :kana:

hahaha very funny, this post has made my day lol

Sam just keep it shut buddy your digging yourself into a much bigger hole!! oh BTW mum, you can always ban him from driving when he reaches 17 and let him walk, that will teach him for being all bloody eco-friendly lol

if you have a garden then mark off a small section for him to cultivate some vegetables for him to use as food !!!!! but remember he cant use a shovel or a fork to dig the ground !! remind him they take allot of coal electric and oil to manufacture !! he has hands he can dig the soil with those, then when his crop needs watered you have the old tank water for him to use (25% of your tank a week) thats plenty and Eco friendly he shouldn't need to be using tap water when you have so much spare tank water !!! and as h has lectured you on the misuse of water your also showing him your doing your bit to help and recycle the water. when his food has grown ( i would suggest carrots etc etc as they don't need to be cooked) !! saves using gas and more electric which is a waste if it isn't needed !!! lol ohh don't let him eat with a knife and fork, again they have to be manufactured and hes got 10 fingers which are perfectly fine for picking up food with.

turn off all electric to his room, remove his computers mobile phone, ipods, play stations sky / cable etc etc and if he ask why you can say its Eco friendly all these arnt Necessities but luxuries, and I'm sure hes never going to need a lift to his mates etc etc as he has a perfect set of working legs. lol

He may then think mmmmmmm i wont lecture dad again about not being Eco friendly. lol

geesus, its not my day im going for a makeover first thing in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im his mum not his dad. please tell me that was typo, otherwise i will cry

1)im using co2 for the most stupid reason-and should not have plants in my tanks
Well if your adding CO2 correctly, the plant's will be consuming it and producing oxygen...so he has no argument there.
2)i am using way too much electric,running 8 tanks, filters,lights,air pumps,heaters
With planted fish tanks and fish, you are simply appreciating nature in a way you cannot do otherwise (without getting a jet to the tropics and going snorkelling). You should say this is giving you more interest and helping you enjoy nature though viewing/controlling/understanding an aquatic environment, which overall is encouraging you to be more environmentally friendly by making you want to save these things. I'm sure he probably wastes loads of electricity on other things...leaving the PC/TV on, leaving transformers plugged in ect. Unless he himself is extremely careful with all these things he doesn't have much argument.
3)keeping fish in a tank in the first place is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See above, though if he eats chicken there's tonnes of stuff you could bring up to counter that. Why does he think it's disgusting anyway?
4) most ridiculous use of water he has ever known- water changes once per week ( no he never washes his face!!)
Other than maybe the cost of water issue (if your on a meter) I don't see the problem here? The waters not harming anything when your getting rid of it, in the big scheme of things how is putting water down the drain (or watering the plants) harming the environment as a whole?
He should be getting on at people who use sprinklers or who take long showers if he's that concerned about the water.

You never fail to amuse Shelagh, Thanks for making a misserable day at work bearable !!!! Made my day reading that ....
If it helps, to make it more amusing I once took all the fuses out of the plugs on my eldests computer, Playstation, Wii, I Pod , Alarm Clock etc etc, it is very amusing to watch them think that the power has been cut to THEIR ROOM ONLY !!!!!!!!! Although if doing the alarm clock be wary it WILL be YOUR FAULt FOR NOT waking them up, therefore YOUR fault THEY got a Detention for being late for School , Bloody Kids who would ave em ...

Oh the joys of teenagers, glad my youngest is 18, oldest 27. There attitude changes when they have to work for a living, and become self sufficient.

1. The plants convert CO2 to O2. He is breathing the O2 you are creating, tell him to quit breathing.

2. Of course you unplug everything that is not essential, including the refrigerator. Tell him to go outside & forage for dinner, his ancestors did & he would not be here if it was not possible.

3. He’s right, tell him natural is better. Give him the gardening implement he built from a stick & a rock, and tell him to dig you a pond.

4. The wasted water is now in a pond, he can use it for his garden, he will have to forage less with a garden. He may even be able to breed something he can eat in the pond, crayfish come to mind. The protein from the crayfish will help supplement his new diet of raw vegetables he grew, and he may be able to barter crayfish for something a little more tasty, such as eggs.
