I swear I saw a fish go up the siphon... cue running to the other end of the hose, running the water through my fingers for a minute, then sticking it in a bucket and running back to the tank to see if I'm wrong and can see it. I could only see 2 barbs but nothing was coming out the other end and after about 5 minutes the smallest one appeared again in the tank and I breathed a sigh of relief! 8 years of fish keeping and I've never lost a fish up a siphon... don't want to start now.

My heart is pounding!!

I've siphoned up fish before. In the end I had to fix some net over the end of the tube (big enough to suck up dirt but too small to suck up fish) to prevent it happening again.

One of my Tetras rode the giant flume just the other day......My pipe is clear so I watched him travel several meters before exiting in to the sink! looked like he actually enjoyed it

i sucked up a honey gourami the other week from one of my nanos, it was insta squished! Had to cut 2 inches off the pipe as i couldnt get it out!

My neons think the gravel getting swished around is food....so they decided to follow one night -.-' thankfully they didn't get sucked out fully o_O

I use a siphon to suck up baby bristle noses, and put the end I want the bubs into which ever tank. Its a lot easier than hunting them down with a net and less likely to squish the little dears. I have lost count of how many guppy fry have gone for an accidential ride up a siphon hose (cue I now always put a net over the end of any sipons), but then I suspect guppies can be exceptionally stupid at times.

Funny enough a few days ago I sucked up a Zebra Daino into the bucket. First time I ever sucked up a fish. Catching him was tough though.

Managed to Hoover up an octicinclus the other day , it only went into the large bore of the gravel cleaner and stopped because of the small bore tube it is attached to , panicked though all the same !!!!

ahh now, you've got me there, I guess I should change my original statement to I've never accidentally sucked a fish up the siphon - I've done it deliberately several times. It's good for hoovering up cherry shrimplets as well as fish fry ;) :D

duly reported to the RSPCF lol .....

I always seem to suck up Kuhli loaches, then spend about 10 minutes trying to catch it in the bucket... :S

My fish seem to know to stay away thankfully as I put the water straight out into the garden, the most of them apart from the betta's are too big to go up the siphon anyway.

My Celestial Pearl Danios are a pain in the *** when I am doing my water change, they try their very best to get sucked up for some unknown reason, I even try and hit them away with the end of the tube but they still dont learn!

Its not to much of an issue because I run the water into a huge water butt, so any fish that get sucked up just get netted back into the tank.

i had a fish jump out of the tank yesterday and land at the cats feet, luckily the cat spend several seconds in shock giving me enough time to net it up, it seems ok, still not sure what it is though
