Got myself a Golden Nugget Pleco, and a couple of Polka Dot loaches today

I must say they are entertaining fish :)

Just thought I would share that info

Especially after losing a Paroon Shark last week, and several Guppies out of my main tank

The shop I got the Golden Nugget from (approx 3 inches) had one on display that was approx 14 inches, and it was an amazing looking fish that size :)

The Polka Dot loaches have gone in my Juwel Rekord 60 (apporx 11 Gallons) and the Golden Nugget has gone in my 20 Gallon tanks

I am planning on getting a Juwel Rio 180 or possibly 240 and rehousing them in there probably in a few months time, so that they can grow to their potential :)

Here you go, I found this last night :)

They are really good to watch, im led to believe they have 10 minute battle dances too :)

As far as the Golden Nugget, im not sure how difficult they are to keep, as ive only had mine a day, so way to soon to tell, ive read PH 6-7.0 and can be a bit territorial with other Nuggets, or Plecs that look like nuggets

Him and my other (nugget looka like plec :)) seem to be getting on ok, and like nudging each other out of the way :)

Here is a link with important info on keeping gold nugget plecs;

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loric...yanci/153_f.php

They can get to 14inchs+ long and are terotorial with other bottom dwellers and will kill other golden nuggets, so it isn't a good idea keeping one with a nugget look a like plec- they may be ok right now because the nugget is still a baby but things will change as it matures.
Although they are primarily vegetarians and will eat some algae(so algae wafers are needed in their diet), they also need a fair amount of protein in their diets which is hard to get from algae alone- i find the best way to give my large plecs protein is by feeding them king sized de-shelled prawns. Be careful with sort of food though as it can make water quality go bad quickly, you shouldn't need to feed the plec more than one prawn a week/fortnight.

thanks for that link tokis! we are planning on putting a gold nugget in a 170 gal tank, the other bottom dwellers will be 4 clown loach, a pictus catfish (may get two more), a medium galaxy plec, and a small bn plec, reckon this will be ok!

also you mentioned feeding a prawn once a week/fortnight.. how do you weigh the prawn down? what a shame, i'll have to buy some prawns now :D :p
