Just Got A Slight Reading Of Nitrite

Water change time :). Then check it in the morning. Probably will go down, but a water change will do no harm and the fish will appreciate it.

You've been adding quite a few fish, bacteria will take a few days to replicate itself to cover the extra waste.

As three-fingers said, a w/c is the best way to remove the nitrites. 30-40% will do the trick depending on the amount.

water changes are a key to a lot of problems...once you know the way of the water change, things seem easier :good:

I'm with everyone else. Water changes are definitely a good idea if there is any detectable nitrite.

Don't you need that mature media any more? I never heard anything else from you about it.

Cheers :good:

BTT: Thanks, but three fingers got there first :D

Ok, shall do a water change, was just wondering if it was serious. THe nitrite test is only about half a shade darker then 0, but still nowhere near the 0.25 reading. Maybe 0.05-0.1

Ohm and 1 guppy died during the night. IM pretty sure it wasnt nitrite related.

No problem mate. If ever you need anything else, just give me a shout.

Remember that there is no safe level of nitrite (other than 0). Nitrite restricts the uptake of oxygen into the blood and is very dangerous to fish. 0.25ppm is just an amount commonly used here on TFF to indicate to people that whilst it may not be possible to keep levels at 0, it is a must to keep them as low as possible. 0.25 is not considered 'safe'.

Continue your water changes, and remember don't be scared to do large or frequent changes if required.

Good luck to you and the rest of your fishes. :good:
