my mate just gave me a four foot fsh tank today well happy got 12 fish in my tank at the moment how many more can i put in the four foot tank. ihave two clown plecos and two gloden laoches three pigmy cats two tiger barbes and five zerbra danios

First add 3 more cats (Im pretty sure those are corys) then add 4-8 more tigers, a few more zebras (these need a 3.5-4 ft. Tank anyways) not sure on loaches or plecos.

Yeah because they're shoaling fish need groups of 6+ and less aggression with more.

Be very careful with Tiger barbs and corys. Tiger barbs can be very nasty they are also incredibly greedy! Corys may struggle to get food with them about.

Good luck with the new tank!

A four foot long tank gives you many options, of course you have to consider the fish you already have but still, you have many options and that's great.

Oops! I didn't notice he had Tiger Barbs!

I would try to re home the Tigers, they're just too aggressive and they limit the other fish you can have. Most successful Tiger Barb tanks are just Tiger Barb exclusive.

Do not keep tiger barbs with corys.
Just dont.

Sounds like you have a plan. Let me suggest that you use part of your old filter cartridge to cycle rather than the water itself. There's much more beneficial bacteria on the filter media than there is in the water or gravel, etc. Just get a new filter cartridge for your old tank, cut the old cartridge into some strips. Put 2/3 back into the old tank & 1/3 into the new tank. That should jump start your cycle. :good:

Oh, and you really should look to re-home those Tiger Barbs since you only have 2 of them to worry about now. You don't want them nipping at your other fish like little piranhas do you? I had to return 5 of them because they were nipping at my Gourami's feelers and evcen though the Gouramis chased them, they would come back for more. They're little demons I tell ya!

Grats on the 4 Footer, sounds like its going to be a nice tank, are you going to make a journal? :good:
