What is your opinion on these? I am very interested in seeing them. Is there any fish you would like to see with the glo gene?

Many years ago I had tetra glofish tetras....they did not live as long as tetras normally live nor did they grow as big as natural tetras. I feel that betas are beautiful in their natural coloration...why mess with it by altering DNA.

Glofish are not dyed fish. They were originally created by injecting DNA from marine fish such as jellyfish into healthy natural fish. The altered DNA is passed on to later offspring. . It is best to stay away from designer fish such as glofish in my opinion. As that famous quote goes: "It's not nice to fool mother nature.'

Glofish are very pretty but I prefer natural besides you never know when "The attack of the Glofish" will happen

I concur with Fishmanic, but will say it a bit stronger. Responsible aquarists should not purchase any modified fish, no matter how it was achieved. With all the destruction to natural habitats and fish species becoming extinct, our efforts should be to preserve the natural species. After all, they are better to begin with, in terms of their biological aspects. Like all such practices, once you allow one there is no end. "Glofish" are prohibited within the UK and EU, and rightly so.

At my local Petco they have six tanks full of glofish and sell special glofish aquariums and ornaments. I will not be buying any but it seems to be popular with kids.
