Hi, Just bought my first tank (60Litre) and would like some advice on whether or not the fish I am looking to buy are suitable and can live together.
I am looking to buy a mixture of tetras, barbs, catfish and possibly a couple of sharks and loaches, I would also like to maybe put in a couple of fresh water frogs!? Can anyone help me with some species of each? I know people who keep tiger barbs and have no problems with them, but I hear some shark species and loaches can be a problem in a community tank?
Also if anyone has any interesting species which are reasonably easy to keep for a beginner I would like to hear about them.

Cheers

Personally, I've found zebra danios and harlequin rasboras to be great first fish, with cories begin introduced somewhat later. There are a ton of other wonderful tetras: head&taillights, rummynose, glowlight, lots of them.

Dansherry1601 welcome to TFF and I hope you'll have fun here, its a great bunch of forums. Whenever we see a post from newcomers like yours reads, we tend to get worried that you may have never had access to correct information about many of the details of setting up a new tank. Of course, we have no way of knowing that and you may be very experienced! The filter that you buy for a fish tank can not handle fish right away. It takes sometimes 2 months to get it ready to handle fish. We have really great articles in our beginners resource center all about this problem, so I hope you'll begin to read and explore and ask questions here.

The members really enjoy going along and helping with a new setup, they all chime in and let you know when you're steering a bit off track and there's lots of other threads from other beginners to read too which also helps to make it all more entertaining.

Thanks.

I am relatively new to keeping tropical fish, but it is something Ive been interested in for some time. My parents keep a small BiOrb with no major problems, so hopefully I know enough to start off. I am planning on starting a fishless cycle as soon as I pick up my tank tomorrow, I have read the thread about starting up a tank so have a good grasp on what to do to get started.
I am interested in keeping some small sharks but again my parents had two, but they became too large for the tank and had to be sold. I was hoping there is a species that would suite a 60L tank? Any info?

Hmmm, sharks that can grow up in a 60L/10G tank, not sure I can think of any myself but there are lots of members here, so maybe someone will think of a species for you!
