Just Been To My Lfs

Just been in LFS and saw the most beautiful VT Bright Blue Betta ina small tank full of Gouramis....swimming free, I couldn't believe it! Can they actually share a tank like that?

Was blown away, was also looking at a tank divider but it wasn't high enough as If I got another Betta they would 'jump' over it....any ideas on the cheap?

Gouramis with bettas = bad idea. They are in the same family. The betta must have been very stressed and harassed or he'd probably have gone for them. Unfortunately this is rather common from pet stores.

Dividers on the cheap... umm, undergravel plates?

One of my lfs had one in with male guppies and not one of the male guppies had a whole tail

That couldn't be a good situation for the Betta or the Gouramis.

Sometimes it seems like lfs just don't care about the fish.

I've seen them in with allsorts at various shops. I've only seen one looking nipped though-in with serpae tetras. I think it's better for shops to keep them in larger 'community' tanks than keeping them in the tiny containers a lot of shops use, but tankmates have to be chosen wisely.

I have my male PK in with a gold gourami. granted the gourami is 2 years old and slow moving due to a bent spine he has had all his life.
