After my introduction someone asked me to post a picture of my "Balloon Ram". So here he is

He's a bit puffyer then normal rams, short, fat, and round... a little cutie.

they look the same as regulars. sorry.

No, I can see the difference. These ones are slightly more bulbous. Although they could just be overfed regulars that the store owner is trying to pass off as rare specimens. :p

Hmmm, blue rams. I just found one of mine jammed up the side of the tank between the galss and the filter, dead. :byebye:

Nice baloon ram by the way.

Well wrs, you actually just have to look more closely at the pic. The one in the front center is the Balloon Ram, while the two in the upper corner are regular Blue Rams. His "puffiness" is pretty distinguisable from them.

Yeah I love the little guy. The store I buy all my fish from had a BUNCH of them so I quickly grabbed up 4, this was 3 weeks ago. I got home and had to set up a fresh tank, cause I couldn't put them in by big tank w/ the 16 tiger bards I have (which I'm getting rid of). So during the process of getting the water right for em.... I lost 3 within the first week :( :(I think things are going good now though, and hope to keep him for a long time (as long as they live). I just got the other two rams a couple days ago.

Just got back from my tank and the other ram had found my dead ram up the side and lodged himself up there too. Luckily I got there in time and poked him out with a chopstick.

Wait… you didn't get the dead one out before?

Either way, that's sad. I had these 3 dwarf gourami's in my big 75gl. tank, and 2 had died w/ about a week in between each other. Another week went by and we left to VA Beach for the weekend. When I came back I couldn't find the third one. I looked all voer the tank, moved stuff, called the kid that came over and fed all the animals and asked if he saw it die and took him out... he didn't. Finally yesterday I was fishing my veggie clip out and there he was just floating on the top, I'll skip describing what he looked like. I don't know where his body was the whole time or how it came loose and floated to the top, pretty damn sad though :( :(

Oh!! You know what, my ram is that body type! The body is more round, and less extended like that! (see sig)

Hmm . . . my LFs just called is a "gold ram" so I didn't know what the difference in shape was called. Hmm . . . mine doesn't have the facial stripes though???

Well my other ram is getting on fine now, but the dead one's baody can't be found...strange.

I don't think gold rams are 'balloon rams'. They're a hybrid of Blue Rams though, so I'm sure there could be some 'Gold Balloon Rams' out there somewhere.

As for the missing boy, yep... know how it is. For the whole week I just constanly thought about that, and it wasn't that small. Probably about 1.5" - 2" and bright red and blue. not like a tiny little yellow body that hides against the gravel.

I see you have my taste for fish, lol! Your ram is a beauty, congrats :) Wish I could find some balloon rams. I don't think gold rams are a "hybrid", they are simply a different colour. I've never seen a gold balloon ram, but I suppose they're possible. Your gold ram is probably just a well fed one :)

Nah I didn't say the golds were a hyrid, just pointing out that the balloons are hybrids of blue rams... so maybe they can make em from golds. Ya never know I guess.

Personally I dont like the balloons so much. I'll stick with my reg german blues :D (Thats just my opinion tho so dont mind me ;)
