Ok circulation/filtration. The does and donts.

Basically i have a fluval 3 and a fluval 2 firltering my 126L tank. I also have a air stone and a bubble pad, and i just want to make sure its not making the current (Or w/e it is in a tank lol) too strong.

This is basically my tank (Dont laugh at my mad MS Paint skills :p).

The filter nozzles are about 3" under the surface maybe a little less, the bubbles go out then up if you know what i mean. Infront of the filters is the airstone and infront of that is the bubble pad.

I just want peoples opinions on what they do to oxygenate there tanks, and what they use :)

my that is a horrible ms paint pic! lol just kidding, my artistic skills are rubbish :D

regarding the circulation/current. basically unless you have fish which require particularly still water (like hatchets) and your fish aren't pinned to the wall of the tank, then the current isn't too strong!

regarding oxygenation, v little oxygenation comes from the bubbles moving up through the water (they go too fast for lots of oxygen exhcange to take place) however they do create surface agitation, this is where the oxygen exchange takes place.

surface agitation can be achieved just as effectivley (if not more effectivley) by your filter output being positioned near the surface and thus creating waves or ripples on the water surface. Generally speaking this is more than enough oxygenation.

So the bubble wall is basically there to look nice (obviously this is a matter of personal taste though!) and because some fish enjoy playing in it, not for oxygenation as you may think.

the only time you need to worry about oxygenation is in warm weather (as the water gets hotter it holds less oxygen) and when medicating the tank (some meds seem to reduce the amount of oxygen in the water) unless of course the specific species of fish you keep require a high oxygen content.

Looks like Wiggle cleaned up on that question, talk about leaving nothing left for us to answer :p.

Got a picture like that on my fridge, if you know what I mean ;)
