Jus Starting A Mbuna Cichlid Tank? Some Advice Please

Hi there i am jus starting a Cichlid tank up. Have bought some ocean rock and sand and all the neccessarys to keep the tank runnin ie filter heater etc

I have to mature the tank now but after that i want to start stocking the tank up with cichlids. I jus wanna know what are the best to get, the most colourful and prettiest but not too big in size. My Tank is about 150litres i think. I have jus been looking at the post on here where the members have posted pics of there tanks. There are some lovely fish on there but 1 that struck my attention was the pics from stabby. what is the lovely blue fish in the middle and the white 1 jus behind it. If stabby can let me know or any1 who knows what fish he has that will be great as they are lovely.

afras come in AMAZING colors and are smaller then most mbuna.

Which picture is it on the post, I'm sorry I must be missing something, I can see pictures with blue fish in them but none with a white fish behind. Like mammafish said, afra's are great. Plus that web site that she directed you to is a must read for anyone who wants to keep and that keeps cichlids.

Sabby yeah that would be the one, "Stabby" what was I talking about! I blame crouchy, he started it!!!

yeh, yeh, yeh. came back for a bit of light relief, this marine stuff is far to complicated, just stumbled across a problem with the RO units, but will leave that for the marine section.

Hi, crouchy. Here are some of my favorite small mbuna:

Cynotilapia afra from Jalo Reef
Cynotilapia afra from Mbweca
Pseudotropheus demasoni from Pombo Rocks
Pseudotropheus saulosi
Pseudotropheus elongatus sp. from Chewere
Pseudotropheus elongatus sp. from Mpanga like the ones Tanks A Lot has. Gorgeous.

For your tank I would be tempted to do a saulosi species-only tank.

do you realize the dolphins you like of sabbys grow to 8-10 inches, personaly i've seen one 10 inches!!!

they get too HUGE for the tank you have.

HENCE the reason I directed you to the smaller, colorful afras.

yeh, but they take forever. and personaly I dont think they do well with mbuna!!!!! Iv'e got 11 of them in my happs tank, it takes so long for these ruddy fish to show any qualities, and when they do reach a certain size, there personalities change and they can become extremely aggressive towards other occupants.

ruddy fish and fish tanks, I hate them *only kiddin* LOL
