I was getting ready for work this morning when I heard this splash-click noise.....first instinct is the check behind tanks for jumping fish...nope.....all tanks seem OK....figure it must be the dog...

Just before going to work I decided (at 6.15am) to turn the 30gal tank light on....which I normally wouldn't do....but it seemed fairly light outside so I FIGURED, WHY NOT....

Anyways....to do this I need to open the hood lid...sitting on top of one of the glass covers was my male swordtail....the other glass cover next to it was slightly lifted....with water splashed across both....weird....I figured considering where the fish was....the lifted glass lid and the water....that the fish jumped up at the glass....the glass moved across, the fish landed on the other cover glass....the glass dropped back down again....there is no other way the fish could have got there....

There are no gaps in the tank lids....the front and back covers overlap due to my filter....

Are fish that strong? Would the force of the jump be great enough to do that?? There is no other explanation....

BTW...the swordy is fine....after being out of the tank for 20 minutes!!!

Perhaps it was aliens :alien:

I found a neon dead on my tiles on Saturday
I dont know how! I have a full cover over the top of my tank!
I was re-arranging things early that morning and I think he came out on my arm or jumped when I had the lid open (do they even jump) bizzarre!! Maybe he morphed through the glass with super fish powers. But if he had super fish powers he wouldnt be dead now would he!! OK. Im just rambling, it's 4.00pm at work and I want to go home
Back to your story....

i don't know how it got out either, fish seem to be able to do some amazing things.

A long finned Zebra danio made it 12 feet accross the floor today. I left the little door on the lid open after feeding the little lady had to get 2" off the water surface with only 8" to swim in. then she had to flop quite a ways along the floor. So sad

Did she survive the suicide attempt?
Must have been those long fins that propelled her out of the water at lightening speeds!

Many fish jump when they are stressed or sick occaisionally. Known jumpers are excluded like fighters
