hi ive had 2 julidochromis for about 2weeks now and as fare as i could tell theyve both been eating etc,

tank stats are
ammonia=0
nitrite=0
nitrate=10
ph=6-7

the only change in the tank has been some plants i put in the other day and a piece of driftwood plants. the ph also went from light green to yellow so it went a lil acidic over night, could this be the cause of the problem? i checked the body over for any problems and he seemed fine, apart from being stiff and dead, just wondering if theres anything that could have killed him from what ive sent yous? he was one of the last 2 so i grabbed him and his m8 and now im sad because theyr a hot fish and to loose one kills me inside. all the other fish seem absolutely fine.

i also added 5 electric yellow's small but the ammonia and all that seem fine so im sure its not that.

ive also got a light going now a single glove long light just wondering whether they hate light?

I don't know what to tell you man. It's odd cause cichlids are usually pretty hardy and there's no prob with your water.

The pH is a bit low, which could have contributed to the death, for tanganyikans the recommended pH is usually about 8. The light won't have been a factor, do you have enough hiding places for them both, was the other one bullying it, are you sure it was eating?

i know julies need to pair up and if you're trying to get one, it's suggested that you buy several to develop the pair naturally and then get the other julies out of there.

Any ph swings are bad for fish. I wouldn't be surprised of that's the culprit. I would take out the driftwood as that probably caused the nasty ph swing. Driftwood naturally lowers ph.

its treated driftwood, with a plant attached, its fine and the ph only droped bt .2-.4 or so. and there was 2 in the tank 1 is still alive

oh ok. Maybe it was already stressed when you bought them. Some don't adjust well. Or maybe there were some behind the scenes fighting?? Sometimes it's hard to tell what happened.
