Joining A Forum Has It Increased Your Knowledge On Fish.

Im still as thick as before.
I do wonder if there's only a finite amount of information i can store, though, and that if i keep reading these posts, I'll forget some other stuff ...
Now, how many inches per gallon is it with cats again?

Without a doubt. Books are great for knowing latin names and learning through awkward pictures how to do a water change, but with internet forums you get the knowledge and experience of many parties all working together, not selling anything, all keen to get great results because everyone has the same enthusiasm. Can't argue with that much.

I've only been into fishkeeping since february...

These forums have helped me alot
I prefer personal experiences then something thats 20 years old and recomends UGF's.

definetly yes even thought there r lots of diffrent opinons it easier to figure every out, and aquarium books allways have conflicting information. Forums r also always up to date :D

Or has it confused you at times, with different opions, to be honest i learnt alot from forums, more than books, books do have there uses, but i rather be on a forum.
I found books are great for beginers , if it is a good book. But after that forums are much better, if you know to take each persons advice with a "grain of salt"....

Of course he forum is great. It allows you to have as much knowledge (at your fingertips) as the most experienced fishkeepers on the forum. However one negative thing about forums, and this is all forums, is that sometimes the same information tends to get circulated and people gets facts confused with personal experience. But still A+ forum! :D

Forums are good, if it weren't for y'all, I'd still be trying to house 2 angels in a 10 gallon uncycled aquarium xD

Forums are nice because you get different views on the same few subjects (ie, fish acclimation, cycling, stocking levels) so you can make a decision based on multiple people's experience, not just one guy who wrote a good enough book to sell in a LFS.

Being here on this forum has its ups and downs. But it has learned me a lot when it comes to fish. Not to mention friends, they are so many nice people here who has done nothing but try to help.. I love this forum. They have been some smart rumps to but all together the nice people makes up for a few bad apples in a bunch..

These forums have taught me SO much! I dont know where i would be without them!
Same with my LFS. They have been with me all the way. So that combined with the forums, i couldnt think of anything better :D

Yeah, I think its also the interaction with people that appeals more to me than just reading a book.

I use forum and the internet as a supplement to books. I actually enjoy reading books. I think a good aquarist should have a few books for easy reference, as well Internet bookmarks for reputable sites, including this one. A forum is a great place to get information and practical experience from other aquarists, but it is not my sole source, and neither is the internet.

I always use forum and internet sites for information I need, for the sole reason that they are normally so much more accurate, than the LFS around here.

However, from time to time, I have noticed problems with conflicting advice from site to site, so it can be quite confusing at times.

I don't see how you couldn't learn from these (or most other) forums. When I started out, I didn't know much beyond the limited and half-wrong instructions that came with the tank. I ran into some problems and looked for a message board and went to work absorbing information like a sponge.

Now several years later, I'm still learning new stuff all the time or learning improved/modified information on things I already knew.
