Jewel Nitrite Sponge Causing Nitrite?

i swear there is something in my tank thats causing the high nitrite, i swapped over loads of mature media yesterday and within the hour it had gone back up to what it had been before i changed the media, and i did a water change too... so could either the jewel cirax be causing nitrite or is the green jewel de-nitrifying sponge doing it? both bits of media were "mature" as they had been in an existing tank for about 6 months

Have you tried using a different testing kit? My last API kit was faulty, showing massive amounts of nitrite even in fresh tap water.

its definately fine, i test tap water and taps 0, and i have used another brand of liquid test aswell and its still the same

Throw the and nitrate sponges away don't need them. Complete waste of money.
Have to change them every six weeks and not proven they work.

I would throw the nitrate sponge away as there a complete waste of money.
You have to replace it every six weeks.

I would just transfer some standard blue sponges over to the tank.

the problem is i have no blue, the nitrite sponge was in place of the blue, so the blue has only been in about a week now.. i will take the green sponge out and replace it with whatever i can find

Juwel nitrate sponge not proven if it even works. Have to change it every six weeks aswell.
You need a proper blue sponge in the filter for beneifcal bacterial.

so it is.. well cant say it doesnt work then becuase i always wondered why i had low nitrate in that tank.. i will sort it out

never tested the nitrate of the tapwater, done ammonia occasionally but never nitrate, never found the need.
i have live plants yes.

Test your tap nitrate reading.

Its a complete waste of time buying the nitrate sponge. have to change them every six weeks too.

i replaced the nitrate sponge with noodles - as i dont like using any removes , nitrate sponges or carbon
the little bag of noodles sits nicely at the top with some filter floss to top it off

worked perfectly for me

Noodles you buy from the shop. Never heard of adding noodles before lol.
