Jewel Cichlid Breeding

Post over here as I wasn't getting any responses at the african forum.

Wantes to know if there is any kind of way to sex them as mine went through a second batch of eggs with no success. First batch was eaten and second batch quite a few of the eggs turned white and are now gone. Not sure if I have two females or if it just takes a few times for them to figure it out.

check the link, from what i know they are difficult to sex correctly, but i hear females usually only accept smaller males as partners...

I had atleast 6 spawns from my angel fish pair before they got anywhere,then another two spawns before i got free swimming fry, cichlids usually always eat there first batch,and struggle with second, dont give up hope

my jewels are always breeding. maybe your water is too hard. you can see a difference in colour with them,especially at breeding time. my male goes dark red all ove and my female gets a very red belly and her blue spots go bright red however there are a few different species of jewels.are they in with other fish?
