Jewel Bio Filter Pads ?

Green sponge, replace once every 6 months ish

i pretty much agree with the above posts. The only thing
By green sponge do you mean the nitrate sponge.I've yet to see evidence/post/article that it removes nitrates (not to say it doesn't).Personally i'd just use it as another sponge, and so don't bother replacing.
Regarding the top layer of white poly pads.Don't bother with the Juwel refills, go to the pond section of your LFS (if they have one) and buy the large white rectangles of pond filter wool.

Alot of confusing info around so allow me to give so of my experince.

White poly pads(filter floss) These catch tiny bits of waste/sand etc, No need to replace every water change if they clean up ok, i change mine every other water change(this will depend on how dity they get depending what fish you keep)

All the other sponges green, blue and black do not need to be changed untill they fall apart which should over 2-3 years.

The black one is carbon if it already in the tank leave it and treat it as a normal sponge as carbon only last 2-7 days.

TIPS: poly pads can be got on ebay for £10 for 50! They are not juwel ones but they do the same thing and are custom cut to your filter.

You can wash all sponges at the same time. when you do need to reaplce them in a few years do it 1 sponge per month

Always wash sponges in used tank water never use tap water to wash them :good:
