Jellybean Parrots?!?!

Does anyone know a thing or two about Jellybean Parrots? I have no experience with Blood Parrots or Jellybean Parrots so any help would be very appreciated . Here are some questions I have on them

-What is the minimum size tank they can be housed in?

-Are they aggressive? Can they live in a community tank?

-How big will they get?

-Can I only get one or do they need to be housed with other Jelly Bean Parrots?

I wouldn't put one in a tank under 33g.

They are generally aggressive, so shouldn't be in community tanks..

If you get 2 males, they will probably fight, if you get a male and female, they may breed..

They're only compatible with similar tempered cichlids.. The size of your tank is very important..

If you have a 55g, you could keep a couple females with a few other smaller cichlids..

What's your plan?

edit - size really depends.. Anywhere from 2-4''.. they are a hybrid so it's tough to say.

I'm not an expert in parrot cichlids. the only parrot cichlids that I recently have are the kirrin parrots. but a jellybean parrot is something that I would like to see a pic of

hi there.

tank size minimum is around 250L at the bear minimum for 2 parrots. these fish do grow fairly big.

i have 1 blood parrot and 1 jellybean and they are very peaceful. only aggression they have is when they spawn and they chase a few fish away from spawning area.

my 2 parrots are about 1 year old and they are a good 7 inches long & 4 inches deep so they are fairly big fish and i expect the to grow at least another couple of inches.

I find mine live well in my community tank. i have torpedo barbs and catfish, severum. aswell as i few cichilds. like i say no aggression.

if you wanted to only get 1 you can but i would rather keep them in pairs and as mine have paired up. 1 will not go anywhere without the other.

hi. not all jellybean parrots are dyed. i have 1. he is a male and he is a natural yellowie white colour.

I was thinking about putting 1 Jelly Bean Parrot in a 20 Gallon but I doubt that's enough room. I read on a lot of forum posts that they only get about 3 inches though so I thought it might have been feasible.

if your talking about this little guy hes not a jellybean parrot its just a short body convict cichlid.
they pretty much max out around 2 inches.
well the ones had maxed out at 2 inchs

yeah. my 2 have paired up. but it is very unlikely they will successfully rear young as 98% of males are infertile due to being hybrids. but there are the odd few that are successful.

thanks for your reply, I know that most males are infertile but I am wondering about the jelly beans or shor bodied convicts? I have always kept what I belive to be Sev X midas blood parrots (I may be wrong), basically I have added a small one that I think my be a male convict (although marked up as a blood parrot in the shop) and he has paired with a much larger female bp and they have now spawned and are tending to the eggs as we speak.


heres a pic of the little fella, any ideas on what he is?? he is about 3"
