Has anyone out there got any experience of this kit. It is quite expensive but I'm investing a lot in plants in my new 260l tank and want the best conditions for them to thrive. Thanks.

Does having an airstone bubbling away wipe out the effect of a co2 system?

you can run an airstone no problem but it will mean having to inject more CO2 to compensate. Why run the airstone and use more power? If you want more O in the water raise the filter pipes to create a little surface turbulence.

The JBL kit is fine however the 'off the shelf' setups are very very expensive and no different from the welding stuff in reality. Many people use these people. Good set however most use fire extinguishers once the original cannisters are emptied becuase it is quite hard (and expensive) to get these cylinders filled by anyone without it being an LFS that holds it for a day or swops empty for new:

Another problem is that I haven't sen a complete set (even these Aquarianversand ones) where the whole set is ideal. The kits in the link above are fine but most will then go on to use a different diffuser. The JBL and Aquamedic ones people never seem to use the diffuser supplied after a week or 2 of having it. For spending that kind of money you want thewhole kaboodle to be what you want rather than replacing bits of it.

As ana example of cost of kits using FEs from the start. A full 2kg FE is in the region of £30 inc delivery on ebay. A reg with solenoid would be in the region of £55, then all you need are CO2 hose, bubble counter, NRV and diffuser which should total somewhere in the region of £100 for the lot. Add more if you go for something like an UP inline stomiser but you get the picture.

Also add to your shopping list a drop checker, Ph reagent (bromo blue) and 4dKH solution to 'monitor' the CO2 levels. The stickies within PARC at the top of the planted section will detail what this does etc.

I actually set mine up with an UP atomiser for about £80 including the 2kg CO2 but I managed to get a good reg/solenoid/needle valve combo on auction (still brand new and unused) for £34.

If I remember rightly my first setup was one of those disposable bottles but I used all the welding stuff with 600g disposable bottles and it totalled in the region of £80 for that one too.
