Hi

I have had java moss in my tank b4, but i took it out cos it wasnt really wor i expected...

Instead of a Dark green java moss are supposed to be (from memory and online pix), my java moss is a brownish green color.... i thought it mightve been too much light so i turned the light above it off and didnt turn it ever since.

Its been around a month and its still brown! so i took it out yesterday.

Why is it a brownish green instead of the lush green?

Thanks ppl -_-

edit_ btw i fertilize the moss every 3 days with some plant fertiliser...cos i know java moss feeds from the water. they dont got roots.

Is the actual plant brown, or is there growth on the plant?

Mine seems to grow small toughts of algae, which are brown, and periodicaly i remove it by taking the java and giving it a good rub over in a bucket of tank water.

I have Java moss in dimly lit tanks and its thrives. I know java moss does not fair well in really warm tanks eg 28C+
I would put it in a container outside for a few weeks in the sun to see what happens, you also could of gotten some really unhealthy plants.
You shouldn't have to fertilize it IMO.

Its the actual plant thats gone brown....I have taken the plant out and rinsed it in water (tank water), but the brown doesnt go away.

I will try putting some under the sun and see wot happens.
