Java Moss

I've recently bought a slate cave and i'm thinking of putting java moss on it, it'll grow on it right?
Also I'm thinking of having a carpet of java moss, but how would i clean the substrate? ( would malaysian trumpet snails clean the bottom)

When you put java moss in you usually have to tie it to something when i clean my tank i take mine that is on pieces of slate out of the tank and into a sink full of whater. This allows me to clean the moss and trim it. and now you should be able to clean where the java moss used to be.
