ive bought $10 worth of Java Moss, about a large handfulls worth when i bought all my other plants.

Just wondering now what to do with it.........i know some people make carpets or walls out of it but i think you need other supplies for that like flat sheets of plastic and netting of some sort to cling it to.... ???

is it possible to make it grow around ornaments? if so, how??

thanks

You could tie it own with fish line :good:

ok so tie a bit down with fishing line then will it grow around the ornament or do you need to "train" it to... or just tie it all the way around

I tie it with black cotton thread, just use enough so its secure. Looks good on bogwood/rocks.

Lots of people use things like hair nets to attach stuff like this to their ornaments/stones.

There was a really good article about growing plants like this. maybe you could run a search.

check in the "planting" forum thingy. Think it is called "Planted tanks" section.....dont quote me on that tho.

hi,

i have used java moss quite a bit recently, i have attached it to slate and bogwood. I first tried using cotton but it seemed to come loose quite quickly. You can use fishing line as an alternative as its see through! Personally i wouldnt use a hair net unless its going to be very tight, as remember it is a net and fish will get caught in it.....

I used really small green elastic bands to attach my java moss to bogwood and slate they are not very noticable and very easy to use...the moss grows well under most conditions so the bands are soon unnoticable :good:

If you go to planted aqaurium section there is a pinned topic about how to create a moss wall and also a moss carpet, i have tried this but to no avail..i found a lot of my fish got stuck behind it

you wont really need to train the moss in any way, just secure it in the position you requre and let it grow, you can always alter where it is growing a little later on....

p.s i have just started using nutrafin co2 and have noticed a dramatic increase in the grwoth , so that may be something to consider? :good:

When i bought my java moss it was netted over a ping pong ball so it floated at the top of the tank and as it grew out made a nice floating mass of plant. I just noticed the betta in you sig, bettas love this as they can climb into the java ball when it grows out and just chill. My wild betta also has a mass of loose java moss on the bottom of the tank that just floats around, which he loves to hide in. of course these suggestions aren't so great in a planted tank as floating bunches of java will block out the light to other plants.
