Java Moss Attaching

So I have some Java Moss attahced to some drift wood. It's currently tied down with white cotton (which looks awful). How long before the moss will attach to the wood and I cut cut off the cotton?

In my experience, about 3 months with low light, ferts, no CO2. Why don't you use some fishing line instead of white cotton

White cotton was all I had at the time. Have added fishing line to my pay day shopping list!
