i know this was already posted but I was wondering if any1 uses or knows any1 who uses jars as containers inside tanks? I tried putting a .5 gallon inside to see if he had any reaction...ill update tmrw...

Do you mean putting a jar inside the tank then having a second betta within the jar? Not sure why a betta would show any interest in an empty jar in his tank. Or maybe a jar inside a community tank to get him to react to the other fish in there but not being able to attack them. That could work I guess...

lo lsorry for not clarifying...u put and empty jar inside the tank and some bettas show interest in it by using it...i now he's a dork

I guess you mean he'll swim around in it? Why not try some plants (real or silk). They tend to like swimming through the leaves and such :)

My bettas never showed much interest in jars but they seem to like terra cotta pots. You just have to plug the hole with silicone glue or make it bigger so your fish can go through and not get stuck.

I have two bettas in two filtered tanks (5 and 10 US gallons), and I put the jars on thier sides so that they each have a place to get out of the flow of the filter. They each swim in all of the tank, just with an occasional rest in the jar. :good:

There are other decorations in the tanks, of course.

could you exlplain how you did that goldfish? I wanted to know how to secure it to the side of the tank without having to glue it... anything else would be good to know :) And I tried terra cotta plants pots, no interest at all except laying on it

Well, I don't have it secured to the side of the tank- it stays still fine for me. I just have it sitting on the bottom of the tank. Its a glass jar- are you using plastic? You also have to turn it right side up underwater to get all of the air out, then put it on its side so that the flow of the filter dosen't go in it.

This is my 5-gallon tank:

The jar is a glass jelly jar.

When i put biggish pots in with my bettas, the females would swim through the hole in and out of the hole in the bottom. A Glass jar is probably really weird to bettas.. I wonder how long it takes them to figure out it's clear, but solid.

I probably have the exact same thing...but my betta either doesn't realize it or doesn't care :p He once went into a terra cotta pot but I think that was he saw some food :p Anyways, thanks for the pics. Now I have to go fix all the live plants I just got. BYE

Pocky was fine with it, but Ronin (red betta) flared at it and attacked it a couple times before figuring out why it was there.

lol, have fun with that one. I could never get live plants to stay alive.
