Some people (mind looking at his drawing this guy must have studied A level art instead of enviromental studies)

well the places they live arent as small as thoughs jars!! they dont need massive tanks but thats taking the piss

edited to say he cant spell bettas either

Them jars are awful and as for being better than their natural habitat!!

That's hilarious considering no "small pond" would ever be so conveniently shaped like that. The only way a puddle like that would happen is if a horse clopped through some mud...or there was a pothole...or something fell down into the mud. At any rate, no puddle would occur naturally to be THAT deep/narrow. If anything it'd be much wider and only an inch or two deep. Such a silly, silly man. :p

Yes, because massive, acres-large rice paddies are exactly like a jam jar... :grr:
The only time bettas ever live in "puddles" in the wild is during the dry season when they become trapped in smaller pools of water. And it isn't like they're just thriving like crazy in such puddles; they are certainly healthier when there is plenty of clean water in their environment. I mean, heck, they tend to breed when the water is deepest and there has been recent rain fall.
How sad that they are misleading customers into keeping bettas in sub-standard conditions just to justify their OWN sub-standard conditions. Is it any wonder why so many bettas are improperly kept when stores spout this ignorance?

that is a joke, like my post about the cups a while back saying thy were perfect for the bettas
Wht a JOKE! :/

It is certainly no joke, this store is in Sunderland Tyne and Wear, next to this sign he has another "only one male sold per customer" what a caring kinda guy ehh..

Hah - if they naturally live in those small ponds, how the heck are they supposed to breed? They don't crawl out of water like mudskippers!

OMG that is just  followed by  ...... ....

Just out of curiousity....has anyone said anything to him??? Betta's can _live_ in that much water, but not b/c they like it! And even still....you'd have to do a water change once a day and stress your fish out and

Seriously though, wouldn't it be nice if we could report this? To someone???

As most know it is absoloutley pointless ranting on to owners of aquatic stores who choose to keep fish in this manner "regardless of species" i tried but as long as there is no actual official body to report it to, i see the best way is to just avoid such stores and not line their pockets and if (BIG IF) others do the same then they would have to find alternative means of making a living or at least change their code of practice.

thats right and even more so how the hell would a betta get there in the first place omg i hate people like ythat and if i was in that store i would kick up a right din and make myself heard untill i get kicked out my god what a dick u should go back and rip his pathetic sign down and make him eat it

kev350d I would personally go challenge the person who put up the sign, asking where the actual evidence is to back it up. Start a big rant and don't stop, tell them you will start putting signs up around the shop telling people not to buy pets from their because they mistreat the animals. Tell them you will be outside the door when you can making sure people won't take this information seriously and think jam jars are better then their natural environment!

Problem is there are a lot of idiots (some on here) that believe that nonsence to be true!

ive been to that fish store!! did you see the rather large catfish in the tank behind the bettas, it bites your finger... and it bloody hurts
