Jack Dempsey Issue

yea thats what i am going on about shame 55gal is too small for one :( ...you had a stunning fish al have pne some day though

hehe not to worry i shall be planning lots of different tanks when i finally make my move to colombia....found someone already to make tanks and filters etc,,,hehe,,my missus is worried about finding a property and iam worried about finding tanks

Your problem is your tank size. JD'd need a much bigger tank when housed with other fish. 55gal is fine for a pair of JD's, when you have more fish, and especially other species, you need a much bigger tank to avoid territory issues. Big fish need BIG tanks.

55gallons is fine for a JD with another tank mate :S as they rarely get over 8-9 inches and they arent overly aggressive if they have another tank mate in that can stand up for itself i.e convicts... the key to jack dempseys is that if they fidn out they can bully other fish then they will harrasse them to death if the other fish stand up it wont attack them anymore PROVIDING there is enough territory

ha ha i am the same as you nelly when me and my gf get our own place she is worried about how to do it up im more worried on finding a nice 6ft tank to go in the living room

Sorry, but you are wrong. Almost every authority on JD's will tell you that 55gal is a bare minimum for JD's. And that with other tankmates, a MUCH LARGER tank is needed. Tankmates would not have to fight back if there was enough territory.

well thats funny because me and my uncle was taking care of is jd in a 45gal tank about 175litres a couple of years ago and that had a 4" convict in it and they were inseperable and they lived along time my uncle had them for 7-8 years its just general opinions these AUTHORITIES you can bend rules if it is within reason i have had fish for 5 years and got into cichlids 3 years so i know what i am going on about ..obviously you cant have a 55gal tank with a jd and a red devil in but a smaller tank mate that is tough enough to hold its own u are always going to have aggression in a cichlid tank they wouldnt have their reputation as AGGRESSIVE otherwise
