too many to start randomly suggesting

.....what type of fish do you like?

my best advice is to go to some fish shops, make notes of all the fish you like the look of and then research each of them to see if they are suitable.

asking on this forum is obviously the best place to do that research :)

Here's my standard questions for people who don't know what to stock ;)

Is your water hard or soft? There's no point us recommending neon tetras if your water is liquid rock!

From how far away will you be mostly viewing the tank? If you're going to be looking at it from the other side of the room, you'll want larger, more boldly coloured and marked fish than if you're sitting right next to it.

Are there any other fish in the tank that you have to stock around?

What are the actual dimensions of the tank? We don't want to recommend fish that will end up short of space to turn around, or fast swimming fish if your tank is short and tall!

well i did have a few preferences, i was looking to get 5 odessa barbs, 5 fife-banded barbs, 3 upside down catfish(i love them) and 1 bristlenose plec

Another thing to look into is availability of fish you like - there's no point planning to stock a particular fish, however suitable it may be, if there's nowhere you can find that sells them. Some are a lot less common than others, even by mail order.
