Cleared out the sand in my 52 gallon today and moved it over to the 63 gallon. I was finding LOADS of little yellow balls. They look like osmocote except I've never knowingly added any. Even if they were in TNC root tabs, there's far too many for it to be them.
They're not MTS eggs are they, I thought they were livebearers?

I think they must be osmocote from out of the root tabs..... do they start off very small when dry? I just haven't added that many tabs for the amount of them that I've found. Do all root tabs have osmocote in them?

LOL, I've got big green furry ones.

get your mind out of the gutter, I am talking tennis balls

are they hard or soft?
squish one and see what happens.
Squished one and it had a sort of grainy crystalline texture. Just had a look at the root tabs and it would appear its those.. whatever they are!

Wait, the interior of the ball was a grained texture?

My root tabs leave bright yellow balls in the substrate too. Clear gel capsule melts pretty quickly, the balls take longer to break down. When I added plants to my tank and accidentally uprooted some bits of rotala, some of the yellow balls came to the surface, and I bought even more to the surface when I tried to replant the rotala. Its tricky to poke them back down again without more of them popping up :D
