ok... a few months ago now i set up a 2f aquarium, stuck a few plants in it. this tank has not had any fish in it yet (im letting the plants establish first. don't want fish pulling up the HC i just planted) anyway i left the tank. full of water dosing it every day with ferts and liquid carbon doing water changes.

more to the point now...

the succession of life iv seen in this tank is quite amazing...

first i had some tinny tinny little white bug looking thing in it. then i found a snail (came in on the plants) this has bread now and there loads of tinny snails in the tank. but the longer i seem to leave the tank the more animals there are appearing...
for example there's a worm type thing (about a cm long and the thickness of a hair...) and theres a round bug still only about the size of a mm but its different to the first bug.

also it looks like some type of bug is building something. like at the bottom of the wood in the tank there's this pile of debris. its not snail poo or anything else... and its appearing in the same place after water changes... there's a few spots with it in



im just finding it amazing how much life is occupied a volume of water cut off from like a river... how do these animals make there way into the tank >.>


its like a whole food chain... anyway i just thought you guys might like to know >.> sorry for the long ramble about nothing

i highly doubt that... as i dont have any corys :L... unless they hitch hiked on plants as well... but that would be some achievement if they did :L

Why couldn't they have hitchhiked as eggs? Then hatched in your tank? This could prove to be very interesting!

it could... i'll leave them in there... i dont think they are though... becasue there seeming to multiply, the population of the first bugs has decreased tho something is eating/ out competing them

it could be although the worms dont look to have the ends split... there just like worms more extras

Some of them are definitely copepods (cyclops), whilst others might be ostracods. All good nutritous future fish food
