Hi ,i had my heater on 24 ,and my thermometers went over 26 ,so turned it down to 22,thermometer still showed 25,now with the weather becoming hoter ,my thermometers gone up to 27 degrees ,so i`ve turned heater off ,on both my tanks ,and opened the lids ,hope the temp will come down overnight.

Does your heater not go any lower? If not, turning it off is fine, or it might be worthwhile investing in a more accurate one. Just make sure you remember to turn it back on

What fish do you have? 27 isnt gonna kill them..

I left mine unplugged last night after a water change (forgot). Came down this morning and tank was still at precisely the same temp.

money saving weather!

Hi ,my heater does go lower ,but turned it off as i thought that was the only way to get the water temp down as if it`s hot in my room the heater won`t work anyway ,and my corries don`t like a temp of more than 24 ,it`s still 26 ,after turning the heater off for a few hours. I hate this heat!

the hopefully temporay increase in the temp should not harm your fish if it occurs for a short period of a few days, so should be nothing to worry about.

Do check your fishes breathing though, if it is increased or rapid the temp increase may be lowering the level of oxygen in the water. Try to increase surface agitation with your filter if this is the case.

Thanks Zoddyzod will check their breathing, and increase filter .

Yeah its not a prob. Hope your temp comes down for you, i think were in for some cooler weather this weekend anway

You shouldnt need to turn your heater off as it should only kick in when the temp drops below the setting you have it on!

Its not a good idea to turn it off for 2 reasons -

1. you may forget to turn it back on

2. You have have a sudden cold snap and need it!

i tried to rescue some fry and and put them in a nano cube with no heater, (heaters in the post) and they're fine, i love this weather!

corys will be fine, i have 10 sterbai and my tank sits at 28c in this weather. I do have 2 Ltr bottle of pop filled with water thats been in the freezer, every night when i come home from work ill float it in the tank to bring temp down a bit to 25c

both mine were up to 28/29 last night, i've left the lids open today and the glass slides open. Fortunately i've got nothing mental enough to jump out.

Not sure where the rest of you guys are, but I am in North London.

I've effectively had my heater off, because it has been turned down to 20C (been having problems with it, long story).

The tank was 29C yesterday and is 30C this morning. That is in a darkened room and without the tank lights on (currently doing a fishless cycle).

Mind you, has been hot here. Could hardly sleep last night. :zz

There's no need to adjust or turn off your heater, if the tank is hotter than the temperature that the heater is set to come on then the heater wont come on.

My tanks usually sit at about 25*C but the Malawi tank has been around 27-28-29*C over the last few days. I`ve had 3 X 2 litre coke bottles filled with water in the freezer so that I can rotate and then float them in the sump on my Malawi setup and that`s managed to bring the temp down a bit. I`ve also moved the powerhead so that it`s causing a good ripple on the surface :good:
