okay, my tank is 52 gallons and i am asking if my plans are enough for water changes and tank maintenence.
  • 5-10L water change daily (apart from days with more water changes),
  • 20l water change twice weekly,
  • filter maitenence every month - two months,
  • change filter pads every few months,
  • change active carbon every 2 months.

i am hopping this is enough because i would like to have a good clean tank, with happy healthy fish.
thanks for any help.

Well, 10x7 = 70L, so that's good.

* 20l water change twice weekly,

2x20= 40L 40L + 70L = 110L. Well I only do water changes when my reading are bad, ammonia or nitrite above 0ppm, nitrate 50ppm or higher.

* filter maitenence every month - two months,

You can get away with every 2 months or so. Try to wash the pads every month or so though.

* change filter pads every few months,

Not needed unless your using polywool. Polywool generally can be changed every week.

* change active carbon every 2 months.

I don't use carbon, but change it every month, to be on the safe side, otherwise it could reach maximum capacity and start leeching it back into the water, the positive effects get reversed.

from this it sounds like your planning to really overstock you tank?
Personally i would only change about 10gallons per week, as far as filter maintenance it sounds about right, depending on what filtration you use,

Generally, being his school friend his plans aren't too overstock his tank, (I would keep more than him if I had the tank.) But my view of of being fully stocked would be classed as overstocked to many people. (Ie, I'm going to keep 25-30 fish in 34g, but I have good filtration.)

He also has a very good filter so he's ok there.

my filtration is an Aqua One Aquis 2250UV-C.
and i forgot to say the main point for all the water changes, its becuse my water has a brown tinge from the bogwood and my parents want the tank crystal clear for christmas (i said they have to help  , but my mum loves to help with the fish)

You can do 1/2 water changes a week and the brown tinge will be gone in 2 weeks :)

i dont think my mum loves me that much
sound like hard work to me, 10l a day only takes me about 5 mins, i set up the water 24hours before (dechlorinated) and let it stand to warm to room temp, then i just pour it in.
but thanks for the help, it might help me in the future :good:

Not really;

Completely depends on the type + size of the "wood".

I know that mark1676 had two large pieces in his 5 x 2 x 2 for months (maybe a year) with twice big weekly water changes, and it still
leeched the tanins into the water.

But then again, there are some good options with small pieces, you could always boil it lots of times in a large pan to release alot of the tannins.

He's got 3 small-medium bits of bogwood.

Personally I had quite a big bit for my 9g. At the start I had tannins but it was highly amplified by my yellow bulb, I changed to a triplus and there were no tannins.

when i do water changes the water in the bucket is brown.
anywho on a lighter note my dwarf gourami who i moved to the big tank last night is getting better and eating! and loving the swiming space
