I have finally come up with a stocking for my 20 gallon (100 litre ) i have a Eheim pick-up filter 2010 and plan to do 30% water changes weekly. i have  sand and the tank is mildly planted. The tank is cycled as it has been set up for a few months last week i changed half the filter media when i got the Eheim filter.

The stocking i am thinking of choosing is

8 Male threadfin rainbow
12 Ember tetra
6 bandit corys

And along the line i may drop in a few RCS when the tank has settled

So is the stocking over stocked if so what can i change i would like to keep all the fish above in the stocking if there is a new stocking.

Nothing to do with fish but I keep and breed Gouldians. What breeds do you have.?

I dont have any finches but i would love to have them, i used to but i had to give them away as they were making to much mess according to my parents.I had to give up birds that i love which made me decide to have fish. I lost something and gain something else.

Your stocking looks fine to me, although I wouldn't have all male threadfins; you won't see their best colours (or behaviour) if they have no females to display to.

I thought of that, but i am hoping the male that may not be in full Colour are still going to be colourfull than the females

They look the same when not showing off their fins and colors, having like 4 females and 4 males can help in coloring them up,

Ok then i will keep 4 male and 4 female.also i thinking could i also put in some zebra snails

Threadfins male to female ratio would be much better at 1M : 2F

Would not recommend 4 males to 4 females.

2 males and 4 females or 3 males and 6 females would be better as they are shoaling fish and best in groups of at least 6+ although I'd much prefer to see at least 10+ to get the more natural behaviours associated with these lively fish.

They display better spawning/courting behaviour under floating plants as well. They also prefer higher temps of around 28C for egg scattering if you intend to breed them but your other stocking won't do so well at these higher temps.

Thank you ch4rlie. i do not intend to breed the rainbow so would i be able to keep 4 males and 6 female with the rest of the fish
