I have a new external cannister that I'm going to use on a new tank, so I have put this filters uncycled media basket into my running cycled tank. (am running my cycled filter in here)

So This new media basket is basically just sitting in the tank, will this be enough to seed some bacteria or does it need constant water flow ?

It will need water flow to get a decent amount of bacteria I believe.

Can you fit the media into your current filter?

Or can you have two filters running in your current tank? (This will take about 6-8wks I believe)

You can also take 1/3rd of your current bacteria to seed this filter also (no more though) - if you do this, you will need to check ammonia levels in both tanks for a week to check all is well, also replace what mature media you remove, with new media to be seeded again. It will just give it a kick start.

Well when I change it over I'm breaking this current cycled tank and filter down anyways so I can then stuff all my cycled media sponges into the new cannister along with the new media and am going to net some old subatrate to hang into the new tank as well.

So am hoping this will be enough to pretty much instantly seed the new tank, maybe I should also run the new cannister alongside in this cycled tank for a few weeks now then ?

The media you use from your existing filter to add to your new filter will mean that you can stock the new tank with around the same amount of fish that you had in your old tank.

So your new filter will be instantly cycled because it will hold all the bacteria that was in your old filter.

Yeah i will be using all my current cycled media alongside all my new filter, the cannister can hold 3 times as much as i currently have and the new tank is twice the size. (going from 70 litre to 125 litre ) well ok nearly twice lol.

So when I change everything I will leave the stock the same for at least 4-6 weeks then slowly add some more fish.

Ok so I'll put this new media basket back into my new cannister and run it alongside my other one in my filtered tank for about 4 weeks, then I will stuff all my cycled sponges into the new cannister as well, net some cycled substrate and hang it all in my new tank for a few weeks and I "should" pretty much have an instant cycle I'm hoping.
Thanx guys/gals
