how close am i to over stocking this tank ... could I put a

pearl gouramis
maybe also a Oto?

in there and have them live comfortable?

I guess Silver Dollars are way out of the question.

You are close to stocked and no to the silver dollars. Otos like to be in groups and pearl gouramis get fairly big. if you are well filtered and take good care with your maintenance routine you could add 1 pearl gourami as a centrepiece fish or 5 otos but that really is your limit and if u took out the snail this would help with reducing your bioload.

You would be fine to include a pair of Pearl Gouramis and around 5 Otos. The Pearls may try to eat the Tetras (so you might want to have a smaller species of Gourami, Dwarfs or Honeys come to mind). Your tank would then be about fully stocked.

i generally think the pearls need a tank closer to 30gals. 20 is probably ok.... but just that, ok, not comfortable/spacious/ideal

with any species prone to aggression putting them in a tank that's right at the bottom end of what's appropriate is generally a bit dodgy. it means you've not much room for the other fish to get away from them or anything like that.

the otto's want to be in a group, at least 3 but a group of 5+ is preferable.

and no SD's are definatley too big for the tank.

when it comes to stocking smaller community tanks you should be thinking more about which fish will consider this to be the optimum environment rather than getting fish which are just about OK with the tank.

what about something like a pair/trio of dwarf cichlids as a centerpiece?

I would of thought the snail would have added little or nothing to bioload, so removing it wouldnt have much of an effect.

I agree with the honey grouami and 5 otto idea :good:

Look its simple dont take this the wrong way but your tanks two small in my look of the matter.
If I was you got A new bigger tank then you can have more fish At the moment dont have any more fish other wise they will just die.
If you do decide to get A new tank you probly no not to put the fish right away in after all you need the water to rest and get right.
Its up to you real what you do.
