Hi, I recently established a new aquarium, yesterday to he exact. I added a few pieces of drift wood that are yet to sink, but thats not the problem. Iā€™m wondering, I know that bacteria blooms cause cloudy water but is it supposed to be this cloudy? The filter Iā€™m using is from an already established aquarium and I also added half a cup of stability that supposedly has bacteria in it. The water also smells suspiciously sweet for some reason, I think it might actually be the driftwood causeing the smell, I donā€™t know tho. So is this perfectly normal? Iā€™m not a noob but this is my first time setting up an aquarium in over 3 years haha.

Some driftwood can release stuff into the water, other driftwood doesn't. The problem is more common with dry wood that hasn't been soaked previously. The best thing to do at this stage is change the water. Drain the tank and refill it with dechlorinated water. See how it looks tomorrow and if it's still bad, change the water again. If it continues to be a problem after that, put the wood in a bucket of water outside and leave it there for a few months. Change the water every week and try again in a few months time.
