woo hoo sorry rubbish pic but my fish wouldnt stop swimmimg no matter how much i begged!!!

I am far from an expert but it looks like the beginnings of fin rot to me although it may be that your platy has been attacked by another fish in your tank or knocked against something sharp in your tank. You may do better posting in the emergency section for a more accurate answer.

:good:

it looks like a bite to me. but it could just as easily be fiun rot treat the tank to be safe IMO :good:

We did have a couple of five lined barbs that were very nippy, that is when we noticed it but we re homed them, we have guppies, more playts, odessa barbs, rtbs, red serpae tetras!?

it more than likely started as a bite then proceded into finrot, get some treatment and with time it should heal :good:

Im soooo confused, iv medicated once with anti fungus fin rot by interpet but as its a new tank & we dont have a great test kit till next wk we r doin 30/40% water changes every day just in case we have high ammonia ect!! A guppy died this am & he had a torn tail!???? Help!

Red Tailed Black Sharks are notorious for being aggresive and serpae tetras likewise. I would say that one of these species is the cause of your problems. Personally, I would never keep an RTBS within a peaceful community tank such as yours or have stocked that particular species of tetra as if you read about they are know to be nippy especially with fish like guppies which are slow moving with quite flowing fins.

:good:

As u can tell i dont know much about fish but i can honestly say we must have a freak make of rtbs as he/she is the most placid fish we have, i find our most aggressive fish the oddesa barbs, they seem very naughty, im not sure bout the tetra either they make no special effort 2 b mean 2 any other fish, feel like iv had my head pressed up against the side of my tank 4 days now, its really upsetting!

Have you read up much on guppies? This article from the livebearer forum might be useful.

All I really know about guppies is that if you have just a few males and no females then they can be aggressive and nippy towards each other. Not sure how many you have now but really you need 6+.

RTBS have always had a bad name but as long as you have nothing similar in shape or colour to them then you can often get away with one in with more peaceful fish.

Most tetra species are nippy, serpaes particularly. Some are more nippy than others but as long as you have a big group 6+ (which I don't think you do) aggression can be spread.

I would advise you to increase your school sizes to at least 5 members as this will help even u aggression however...

I don't know if you have room in your tank so what size is it + what are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels like?
