Hia I have now decided to go for an external filter
Would the eheim 2327 be over kill for my 180 L tank?

The spec is below

For Tank litre/gal: 350/77
Pump Output: 1050 l/h
Filter Circulation: 550 l/h
Delivery Head: 2.0mWs
Filter Volume: 4.9 L
Power Consumption: 25 w
Dimensions: 333x210x210

Thanks,Ken

should be fine. you want to try and filter you water about 4 times an hr. keep in mind the 550 filter circulation and the pump output dont take into account pipe length and bends and once it gets a bit dirty all those figures drop drastically.

the wet and dry filter are also a bit noisy when filling up so if its in an area you want quite maybe no a good way to go.

oo if it makes a lot of of noise my wife would kill me!
Any other suggestions?

Why don't you go for the Eheim Ecco 2234 filter I suggested yesterday ? :dunno:

I was looking for one that also provided heating...

Personally I wouldn't go for the ones with the heating element built in. If something goes wrong with either section it's likely the whole thing wont work. It's more than enough to cope with one piece of equipment not working, but not so great to deal with two. Just a thought.

I think a good rule is if you think it's overkill, use it! Always over filter a tank. Which filter you use though is totally up to you.

I agree with bloozoo. Just get a separate heater. The only downfall to this is that you'll have to use one more plug in. It's completely worth it.

If you want the heater incorporated in the water flow, try the Hydor Inline Heaters with a canister filter. They work great. I am running them with my Fluval 304s. I don't have any experience with the Eheim filters but I do love the Fluvals and they are dead silent.
