Is the Fluval 205 a good filter? And will I see a difference if I go with this. I use a HOB one that I got from walmart?

Hi,

The Fluval externals are good filters, and you'll notice a big difference from using a HOB.

How big is your tank? Fluval i think recommend that the 205 is ok for up to 200 litres, but i personally would get a larger filter if your tank is over 140 litres. Maybe the Fluval 305?

It depends what fish you have too, though. Some fish don't appreciate fast flow. Give us some more details regarding what fish you have and tank size and i'll be able to advise further.

Anyway, answer to your question is yes, good filters, good move. Just need to figure out which size is best for you.:good:

Cheers :good:

A Rena Xp2 would be better and I think they're cheaper in some places, for example eBay. If your dead set on Fluvals, get a 305 for your tank, not a 205.

I am running an XP2 on a 29 and although some people would say its over-filtered it is doing very nicely. As LocS519 said it is about the same as a Fluval 305 for the size tank it can serve. In my case I am only finding it necessary to clean the XP2 every few months because it just doesn't plug up at all before that. When its time to clean it you can do it very simply. Just unplug and lift the shutoff valve, lift the fiter out and carry it to the sink, pour out the water down the drain, rinse out the internal parts in a bucket of tank water, put everything back together, put the filter in place and connect the hoses again, wait about a minute for the filter to fill itself and plug it in. Total time is about 10 minutes and you are good for another 3 or 4 months.
