Hey everyone!

I just got back from a week of vacation in the south of France where I , whilst scuba diving, found a nice piece of drift wood.

My question is, how do I have to treat the wood? I thought I'd soak it in a bleach solution, then rinse and soak in tap water, then rinse again and soak in water with dechlorinator. Does this sound sufficent? how long would I have to soak in the bleach?

dont use bleach, if u use bleach ull never get it and whenyou put it in the tank bleach will slip out and kill your fish

I've successfully used bleach on rocks and had no problems (or is that why my fish died -_- just kidding). Of course, wood is a more porous material. What would you recommend?

NO DISH WASHER,what dont you understand about poisons, hot water+bucket+more hot hot water

Calm down, man! So you're sure that that will kill any parisites ore other nasties, beasties in the wood?

And another question: I've never done driftwood, so how long does it take for the piece of driftwood to get water logged?

should kill anything just use hot and boiling water,as for driftwood i believe the DIY section of this forum could help ya, just look for the pinned about aquarium wood

As Lhutch dipping the driftwood in a bucket of boiling water will kill the nasties. If you want to get rid of the tannins give the driftwood several long soaks in the bucket. :good:

I would recommend a 24 hour soak. The next day get a big pot and boil the wood for around 4 or 5 hours. Then soak it for another 24 hours. In between each batch you will want to replace the water.
