Btw, before i start im waiting for my filter sponge to come from Warehouse Aquatics. (Tank came with no media)

And tbh im not really sure on what im doing.. is this part right?

Day 1 8pm: Add 6ml of Ammonia to my tank to take the level up to 5ppm.
Day 2 8pm: Check ammonia
Day # (WAIT UNTIL AMMONIA REACHES 1ppm) 8pm: Top ammonia up to 5ppm, test nitrites.

Can someone tell me what i have to do... ive read the topic but i find lists so much easier..

Thankyou in advance for any replies.
CJ.

Sounds and looks good to me, I used that Ammonia.

You also need a water conditioner.

Yes, add up to 5 ppm, and wait until that number drops to zero, than add back up to 5 ppm.

You will start to get into a habit to add the ammonia every 24 hours, but it is 12 hours after you add it when you check.

The 12 hours after you add the ammonia, is when you want your ammonia and nitrite to be at zero once your cycle is complete.

some bicarbonate of soda might be useful as it is common to have ph crashes. i had one yesterday

The 6ml I assume is from the ammonia calculator. Be sure to test what that does to the tank. Usually the calculator helps you come out pretty close but sometimes the true ammonia concentration in a given bottle of household ammonia is no longer the percentage it says on the front, causing the calculated value to be off.

Be aware that the very first time you dose the tank with ammonia it may take quite a while before the ammonia gets down to 1ppm or 0ppm. Sometimes its just a day or two, but sometimes it can take 2 weeks (I think I remember one case where it took 3 weeks!) During this first period you can just test at the 24 hour mark, right before you would add ammonia if you found it had gone to zero. Later, after ammonia is dropping to zero within a day, you can start also testing at the 12 hour mark to help get a more detailed trend into your logbook.
