I got a second tank set up about 2 months ago i found what looks like a a worm in the tank new thing for me

No more than half an hour ago, I removed a similar looking thing from a tank. It was obviously a plant root or some thinning plant part.
Pull yours & take a look! 👀

It reminds me of nightcrawlers that I use for fishing. They look like that when they're underwater

Not sure. Did you use dirt in your tank? It might have lived in air bubbles, but that seems unlikely given that it's completely underwater, so it would have been forced out ages ago. did you add anything recently?
 
Looks like a leech. If you find more than 2, the leeches have most likely multiplied, and I would try some online leech trap. Remove it because it is not healthy for your fish and your tank.
